MISCONCEPTION OF PATRIOTISM BY SOME LEADERS by @Umarmt1

It is indeed unfortunate the way some clueless leaders misconceived the idea of patriotism whereby, they regard the patriotic citizens as their number one enemy. These leaders when left uncorrected with their misconception, the idea of patriotism will turn to a nightmare.

Being patriotic does not mean you should not make any critical comment, challenge or revolt against the leaders of your country when they are wrong or are committed crimes against the citizens, but rather being patriotic means having ideological strength and a belief that cannot be undermined, to criticise and expose the weaknesses of the leaders when they are delibrately misgoverning or intending to, so as to nudge them towards taking essential measasures of improving the quality of their leadership. The leaders are only there to rule or govern with the consent of the masses, even if to say leaders are not to be told what to do, however, they must be remainded on what to do.

It surprised me when I read how some PDP leaders shamelessly accusing a man of political eminence and intergrity, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, of being unpatriotic citizen who want to cause a bloody civil war in the country. I cannot actually conceive how these so-called leaders are reasoning. Although, I blame them not but blame ourselves for letting monsters who cannot differentiate between right and wrong, talkless of differentiating between a patriotic and unpatriotic citizen, to take the control of our country. If not a mistake, I would have ask them these questions; is it patriotism waging a bloody massacre on innocent civilians during peaceful protest? Is act of embezzeling public funds and going against the laws and basic principles of the country also patriotism? Which among these and much more of these crimes under the leadership of PDP are not committed in the country? If they can commit all these and yet were not accused of being unpatriotic, on
what grounds are they accusing Gen. Buhari? Is it simply because he lamented on their brutality and act of using power in an unreasonable way which to them is a crime? If showing disapproval on all these forms of crimes means being unpatriotic to them, I am not sorry to say all Nigerians are not patriotic citizens.

Similarly, the worst and most appalling is the exploitative strategy adopted by these so-called leaders and their allies in using political strength, economic strength, social and media strengths in spreading propaganda. It is time to force them by our words and actions or any legal means to change their attitude to work towards the betterment of our lives. It is going to be pride on our side if we can force our leaders to do what we want instead of what they want.

THE LEADERS AND THEIR NEW DISTRACTIVE MEASURES.

Doubtless, in many countries of the world, leaders do renounce when
they lapsed or felt unable to execute the entrusted task. However, in
Nigeria it wasn't so. Whenever the leaders contravented or infringed,
instead they renounce or publicly seek apology and work towards
ensuring such didn't reoccured, they will cause a convulsive movement
or an attack on lives and properties, so as to divert or distract the
attention of people towards the contemporary incident. These types of
incidents, Nigerians had encountered or had a number of encounters
with them, not once or twice, but several times, to mention but a few
among them are:-

firstly, history cannot forget the April 2011 election and it
immidiate aftermath that led to the lost of hundreds of lives, and
properties that worth billions of Naira. The country was really
trembled from north to east, south to west, grievances raising from
all poles, hardly can one conclude that the country would not be in a
bitter civil war, however, God with His infinite mercy, that was
subdued. The leaders with their habitual mockery of setting committee,
set-up a committee under the chairmanship of Ahmad Lemu, to
investigate and report the causes of the pre and post election strife,
the committee in it report reommended viable remedies and warned the
leaders against the possibilities of revolution in the country if at
all measures were not taken. Did they acted on the report? Knowing
that they are the root cause of the calamity and can't seek for
apology talkless of renouncing, they now devised a way of distracting
and diverting peoples' attention by presenting the issue of
constitution ammendment which will enable the president to have a one
seven years tenure in office, was that the problem of Nigerians by
then? That was just a measure aimed to distract and divert attentions.

Secondly, when the level of insecurity hit almost every corner of the
country, and it reached a certain extent that kidnappers, armed
robbers, MEND and Boko Haram were carrying out their activities at any
cost, in another hand intense pressures by people on insecurity was
too much on the leaders and they can't confront and tackle the massive
challenges, what they did in distracting and diverting peoples'
attention was the implementation of the removal of fuel subsidy.

Thirdly, is the recent fuel subsidy embezzlement scandal, after the
ad-hoc committee of Faruk Lawan had presented it report, the leaders
were adamant on adopting and recommending it, civil society groups and
some famous personalities in the country intensified allegations on
them and threaten to renew their protest, the leaders then plotted
ways to distract and divert attentions, firstly, they tried to
obfuscate the report that one failed. Secondly, they connive with some
hoodlums to protest against the subsidy scandal, unfortunately, that
one also failed, lastly, they instructed the hoodlums to start
attacking lives and properties.

Since the leaders have tried all these, and yet no lasting solution
was drived from it, why not they change their attitudes and bring an
end to this slap on their faces? Act rightly and be free!

THE N1.07TRILLION SUBSIDY EMBEZZLEMENT SCANDAL SO FAR

Following the decision by the FG on removal of fuel subsidy, at the begging of the year 2012 that leaded to a protest tagged occupyNIGERIA, which aimed at compelling the government to revert on it decision, during that time, the FG has promised to use the fuel subsidy in improving the standard of living of the common man, by providing enough electric power which is the major problem of the country, construction of roads, improving health and education sectors and providing any facility necessary.
The FG also promised to probe the fuel sector and end any form of irregularities, for that, string of investigations, audits and committees were set-up to investigate the fuel subsidy scheme, the first report was provided by the Ad-hoc committee under the chairmanship of Hon Faruk Lawan, at the House of Representatives. With all the pressures mounted on the committee to compromise the task, as stated on several occasions by the chairman which has failed, the committee on it report pointed out apparently the defects, plots, conspiracies and the culprits responsible. The report was presented for adoption, recommendations and further necessary actions by the house and the president.
Surprisingly, the president is yet to make any recommendation on the report from the time it was presented to him to date. What does that meant? Similarly, beside no any action taken, the plotters seized the opportunity in criticising the report and went to the extent of calling for it nullification. In another way, the government formed the habit of devising a means of diverting peoples' attentions in any conspicuous issues that invovled breaking of law from it side, by either delibrately creating a social or economic misfortunes, political, ethnic or religious strife, these types of incidents was encountered on several occasions, Nigerians are in better position to tell better. Unfortunately, what the government failed to understand this time around is that, the masses can no longer be mislead by these acts, instead they appear to be an incitement to the government.
Henceforth, we can no longer remain silent, our eyes and ears are open, Nigerians will keep on mounting pressures by actions and any legal means on the government until they join their words and actions together.
